ABOUT BANGZ SALON & WIGS by BANGZ.

WHAT WE ADMIRE ABOUT TAMMY & HER TEAM…

THE PASSION

Tammy – Stylist / Owner

I knew I was going to be a stylist since I was a kid. Quite frankly, my inspiration was getting one Toni home perm too many! My mom would give my sister and I these home perms and we’d come out looking like a pack of poodles instead of the glam queens the box promised. One day I said, “That’s enough! There’s got to be a better way!” And the next thing you know I was a stylist. I love what I do. Every day. I love making my clients feel pretty. It’s great to see them sneak peeks at themselves as they leave the salon with a smile. I remember what bad had hair feels like and I always try to think like and feel for the person in my chair.

TAMMY’S STORY

Tammy’s story started 4 years ago when her Dad was diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer. When he started his treatment, she just shaved his head. She knew he would lose his hair due to chemo and radiation.

During the first year, her Mom was by her Dad’s side, taking care of all his needs. What they didn’t know at that time was that her Mom was also battling cancer. She was diagnosed with Stage 3 lung cancer exactly 1 year after her Dad’s diagnosis.

Her Mom’s first thought — after the shock of her diagnosis and the worrying about

her Dad — was about her hair. Tammy has been a hairdresser for over 30 years, but even so, she didn’t know what to do or where to go. So they ordered a wig online.

The wig arrived and her Mom tried it on. The color was darker than expected and the fit wasn’t great. Tammy still didn’t know much about wigs, and so she didn’t know how to correct those things. Her Mom wore her wig around the house now and then, but never in public.

Her Mom’s fight with cancer had some complications and was cut short after only

8 months. Her wig still sits on her dresser.

Tammy vowed no woman should ever have to go through this, and began learning all she could about wigs. In late 2015, she approached my co-worker and friend Beth D’Angelo about opening a wig shop. While Beth didn’t have a personal experience with this, she loved the idea of helping woman and immediately started researching wig companies. Tammy knew they’d make a great team.

WIGZ by Bangz opened in April 2016 to help all women experiencing hair loss and thinning hair because of medical and genetic reasons. The shop is revolutionizing the wig buying experience, arming women with information, education and options, and provide a safe, private haven as they battle — in memory of Tammy’s Mom.

BETH’S STORY

For over 20 years, Beth D’Angelo has been in love with what she does as a hairdresser. It’s not about cutting and coloring hair, but making women feel beautiful. Giving them confidence and making them feel good about themselves. Starting Wigz by Bangz with Tammy Allen was simply a natural progression for Beth.

Beth has worked with Tammy for 14 years as a senior stylist at Bangz, and knew her friend’s story and struggles first hand. So, when Tammy approached her about starting Wigz, she couldn’t think of anyone better to start this new venture with.

Through her own research, Beth saw how women suffered from low self-esteem as they started to lose their hair. And she also noticed how almost all wig shops – both online and brick and mortar – didn’t teach women about the wigs, how to care for the wigs, how to style the wigs and most importantly how to properly wear the wigs. She quickly realized that this wasn’t a purchase, but a process – and women wanted someone to guide them through it with compassion and understanding.

Beth truly loves helping these women feel like themselves again – even if it’s in this small way. She loves creating a safe and caring environment where she can share her knowledge and lend her support – helping women feel better by looking better as they go through their individual battles.

WIGZ STORY

WIGZ is a new wig shop located at 1801 Penfield Road in Penfield, NY with a simple mission: to make the wig-buying process easier and more comfortable, catering to and caring for women who are experiencing thinning hair or hair loss due to genetic or medical reasons.

The shop is a labor of love for co-owners Tammy Allen and Beth D’Angelo. Both women are licensed cosmetologists with nearly 50 years of hair care and styling experience between them. Tammy is the owner of Bangz Salon, which she relocated around the corner at 2105 Five Mile Line Road from the Penfield Road address to make room for WIGZ, where Beth has worked as a stylist for 14 years.

Tammy was inspired to start WIGZ after experiencing first-hand the complicated and confusing wig-buying experience with her mother during her mother’s own battle with cancer. Beth has always had a passion for wigs and a desire to help women going through the trauma of losing their hair.

The shop offers every wig option from customizable synthetic wigs to all-natural, human hair replacement systems, along with wig care products, accessories and wig-related services from head preparation to personalization to reventing of old wigs. Women will be able to learn all their options, and be guided to the best solution for them – based on their individual situation and lifestyle. They will get their new wig properly styled, colored and fit. They will also learn how to properly care for their wigs and hair-pieces in order to get the longest life from them.

The shop also offers wellness services including massages by LMT Megan Bourque of Respite Massage who offers a full menu of massage services including oncology massages to help alleviate pain, anxiety and nausea that can accompany cancer and its medical treatments. And skin care by Lisa Scala of Fresh Facials & Feet, who offers a full menu of facials and medical pedicures and the complete line of all-natural fruit-based skin care products, Skin Script.

The shop is currently open by appointment only, and initial complimentary and private consultations can by made by calling 585-248-WIGZ. More information can be found at www.wigzbybangz.com or on the shop’s Facebook page, www.facebook.com/wigzbybangz

She was inspired to start Wigz by experiencing first hand what her mom went through trying to find a good wig when she was battling cancer. She is a certified cosmetologist and has been a practicing stylist for 30 years. She’s always taking classes to improve her skills and learn how to perform the latest trends in both hair styling and hair replacement techniques and care.  She recently completed her certification in Hair Replacement Therapy and goes to California this month to become certified in Joli Caméléon wigs. Tammy and her husband Mark are the proud parents of 3 beautiful girls, Mackenzie, Delaney and Tessa, who is thinking of following in her mother’s footsteps.

BETH’S BIO

Beth D’Angelo is the co-owner of Wigz by Bangz, and is excited to see her passion for wigs and her desire to help women who are struggling with hair loss come to life. She has gone through extensive training in wig care, selection, styling, fitting, personalizing and care. She is a certified cosmetologist and has been practicing her art for 20 years, 14 with Tammy. “I’ve had this passion for hair and beauty for as long as I can remember. From curling my Mom’s hair when i was four, to cutting and coloring my Barbies’ hair until they had no hair left. I love making a difference in people’s lives by making them feel pretty when they leave. And just listening and talking to them for an hour or so while they’re here. I strive for unlimited creativity. And that starts with listening to my clients and respecting their needs. And their hair. I’m also the new mom to an adorable baby girl, Grace Marie. And I look forward to styling her hair too.”
